NFE specializes in the design and manufacturing of high-performance stainless steel tanks, and our Wine Fermentation Tanks represent the pinnacle of this expertise. Engineered to provide winemakers with unparalleled control, hygiene, and versatility, these tanks are the foundation for producing superior quality wines from crush to fermentation.
NFE Wine Fermentation Tanks are designed to be more than just containers; they are active tools for the winemaker. The core philosophy is to create an optimal and controllable environment for alcoholic fermentation, allowing the natural character of the grape to be expressed while giving the winemaker the tools to guide the process precisely.
A. Superior Material & Construction
Food-Grade Stainless Steel: Constructed from 304 or 316L stainless steel, offering excellent corrosion resistance against the acidic wine must.
Surface Finish: Available in a range of interior finishes, including:
Mechanical Polished (2B): A standard, smooth finish for easy cleaning.
Mirror Polished (Ra < 0.4µm): An ultra-smooth, non-porous surface that minimizes bacteria adhesion and simplifies sanitation, ideal for premium wines.
Structural Integrity: Tanks are designed with reinforced jackets and support structures to handle the full weight of the must and the pressures of fermentation.
B. Advanced Temperature Control System
This is the most critical system for quality fermentation. NFE tanks feature a fully integrated Glycol Jacket.
Jacket Configuration: Options include:
Full Jacket: Covering the entire tank for maximum heat exchange.
Partial/Zone Jacket: Covering the bottom cone and one or more zones on the tank wall, providing efficient cooling for most applications.
Precise Regulation: The jacket is connected to a glycol chiller, allowing the winemaker to set and maintain a specific temperature profile. This control is essential for managing fermentation speed, preserving delicate aromatics, and preventing the production of off-flavors.
C. Specialized Fermentation Components
Variable Capacity Tank (VCT) Design: The tank includes an Airtight Manhole on top, often fitted with a Tank Neck Extender. This allows for the installation of a floating cap or provides headspace for punch-down tools, making the tank suitable for both white and red wine production.
Integrated Cooling Coils (Optional): For tanks without full jackets, internal cooling coils can be installed for efficient temperature management.
Sample Valve: A sanitary valve for taking small samples to monitor fermentation progress (Brix, pH, temperature) without risking contamination.
D. Sanitary Fittings & Accessories
Spray Ball (CIP): An internal rotating spray ball is standard, allowing for Clean-In-Place (CIP) operations. This ensures thorough and efficient cleaning with minimal manual labor.
Sanitary Connections: All ports and valves (for racking, sampling, and glycol) use tri-clamp fittings to maintain a hygienic, leak-proof, and easily disassembled system.
Pressure Relief Valve (PRV): While primarily for fermentation, tanks can be equipped with a PRV to handle slight over-pressure from CO² production, enhancing safety.

Open-Top Fermenters: Designed for red wine production, allowing easy access for punch-downs or pump-overs.
Closed-Top Fermenters: The standard for white wines, protecting the must from oxidation and contamination.
Conical Bottom vs. Dish Bottom:
Conical Bottom: Highly recommended. Facilitates easy lees settling and efficient juice/wine racking off the sediment. Allows for complete tank drainage.
Dish Bottom: A traditional design, often used for smaller batches or specific processes.
Precise Fermentation Control: Manage temperature by the degree to influence yeast activity and flavor development.
Enhanced Wine Quality & Purity: The inert stainless steel and hygienic design prevent off-flavors and spoilage, allowing for the purest expression of the fruit.
Operational Efficiency: CIP systems reduce cleaning time and labor. Conical bottoms simplify racking and reduce wine loss.
Durability & Longevity: Built with industrial-grade materials, NFE tanks offer a long service life with minimal maintenance.
Scalability: Available in a wide range of volumes, from small pilot batches of a few hundred liters to large production tanks of 10,000 liters or more.
The NFE Wine Fermentation Tank is not just equipment; it is a partnership in quality. By combining robust construction with precision engineering focused on the specific needs of vinification, NFE provides winemakers with a reliable and versatile platform. This empowers them to consistently craft exceptional wines, from crisp Sauvignon Blancs to complex, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignons, with confidence and control.
